Mission Central is there when floods and hurricanes have destroyed people’s homes. Mission Central is there when people all over the world need medical supplies, food and clothing. Mission Central is there, right here in Pennsylvania, when people need help getting a fresh start in life, recover from an illness or just need a helping hand through a rough time. Mission Central is there and will continue to be there because God has not finished unfolding our story...
This is the mission warehouse of the Susquehanna Conference of the UMC where volunteers help process relief kits and provide other assistance for those in the community.
Red Bird Mission, Kentucky
Red Bird Mission is an institution of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. It is located in the southeast corner of Kentucky. Red Bird has been providing ministries in this region of the Appalachian Mountains since 1921. Its philosophy as a United Methodist mission is to empower beneficiaries to take responsibility by providing ministries and programs that empower and enable the beneficiary. They do not compete with the public or private sector.
The Mission’s ministries focus on tackling the issues found in this economically distressed area – quality of education, access to health care, drug abuse, lack of economic opportunity, and poor resources. Red Bird addresses these problems through the following: the Red Bird Mission School, a private fully accredited Christian school; the Red Bird Clinic, a medical and dental clinic with a home health nurse and community health education; community outreach through the community aid, elderly, women and children, and family ministries; economic opportunity through the community store for clothing and household goods and the Red Bird Mission Craft Store; and community housing improvement through the Work Camp.
The Work Camp is a work opportunity for volunteers in mission and service-minded groups. Work Camp strives to provide home repair for low-income community residents and maintenance for the Mission buildings and grounds. More than 3,000 volunteers come from across the United States from February through October.
